A tool for studying links between continuum plasticity and dislocation theory within a field framework is presented. A finite element implementation of the geometrically linear version of a recently proposed theory of field dislocation mechanics (J. Mech. Phys. Solids 49 (2001) 761; Proc. Roy. Soc. 459 (2003) 1343; J. Mech. Phys. Solids 52 (2004) 301) represents the main idea behind the tool. The constitutive ingredients of the theory under consideration are simply elasticity and a specification of dislocation velocity and nucleation. The set of equations to be approximated are non-standard in the context of solid mechanics applications. It comprises the standard second-order equilibrium equations, a first-order div-curl system for the elastic incompatibility, and a first-order, wave-propagative system for the evolution of dislocation density. The latter two sets of equations require special treatment as the standard Galerkin method is not adequate, and are solved utilizing a least-squares finite element strategy. The implementation is validated against analytical results of the classical elastic theory of dislocations and analytical results of the theory itself. Elastic stress fields of dislocation distributions in generally anisotropic media of finite extent, deviation from elastic response, yield-drop, and back-stress are shown to be natural consequences of the model. The development of inhomogeneity, from homogeneous initial conditions and boundary conditions corresponding to homogeneous deformation in conventional plasticity, is also demonstrated. To our knowledge, this work represents the first computational implementation of a theory of dislocation mechanics where no analytical results, singular solutions in particular, are required to formulate the implementation. In particular, a part of the work is the first finite element implementation of Kröner's linear elastic theory of continuously distributed dislocations in its full generality.  相似文献

Control of the flow around a circular cylinder is studied using Large Eddy Simulation. The influence of control by rotation and suction on the flow characteristics is considered for several Reynolds numbers. Comparisons with experiments were conducted at Re=105 for the flow with and without control. A drag reduction up to 30% is obtained for an usual suction intensity. To cite this article: G. The conductivity or bulk modulus of an isotropic composite consisting of two well-ordered isotropic phases is situated between the lower and upper bounds of Hashin and Shtrikman. This work is concerned with the construction of two new microstructures capable of realizing every conductivity or bulk modulus comprised between these bounds. The two microstructures obtained, appearing to be simpler than those presented in the literature to achieve the same purpose, have the property that the variation of the corresponding conductivity or bulk modulus is strictly monotone with respect to the geometric parameter characterizing them. In this paper, a differentially heated square/cubic cavity is studied by performing three-dimensional direct numerical simulations. The first bifurcation observed at Ra≈3.2×107 is due to the 3D vortex structures generated at the end regions of vertical boundary layers near the median plane. The main results of this Note are that the flow returns to a steady state for higher values of the Rayleigh number Ra (7×107 and 108 for example) still exhibiting these 3D vortex structures, and that multiple steady flows which differ by their symmetry properties, are obtained for Ra=108. However, the flow reverts to unsteadiness for Ra=3×108. In this latter case, the instability is due to the vertical boundary layers. To cite this article: G. de Gassowski et al., C. R. The sloshing problem is considered in a half-space covered by a rigid dock with apertures. The dependence of the fundamental sloshing frequency on the shape of the free surface region is studied. It is proved that the inequality holds between the fundamental eigenvalues corresponding to two different regions if some conditions are fulfilled. These conditions are verified for particular classes of regions of a fixed area in order to demonstrate that the disk yields the maximum of the fundamental eigenvalue for each of these classes. On the other hand, examples of regions are constructed for which the fundamental eigenfrequency is larger than that for the circular aperture of the same area and even as large as one wishes. For a class of quasi-integrable mechanical systems, we show that in the semiclassical limit the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization applied to successive truncations of the Birkhoff series and a power series expansion of Weyl's formula give the same asymptotic number of states below a given energy.

A full field solution, based on small deformation, three-dimensional elastic–plastic finite element analysis of the centrally cracked thin disk under mode I loading has been performed. The solution for the stresses under small-scale yielding and lo!cally fully plastic state has been compared with the HRR plane stress solution. At the outside of the 3D zone, within a distance of rσo/J=18, HRR dominance is maintained in the presence of a significant amount of compressive stress along the crack flanks. Ahead of this region, the HRR field overestimate the stresses. These results demonstrate a completely reversed state of stress in the near crack front compared to that in the plane strain case. The combined effect of geometry and finite thickness of the specimen on elastic–plastic crack tip stress field has been explored. To the best of our knowledge, such an attempt in the published literature has not been made yet. For the qualitative assessment of the results some of the field parameters have been compared to the available experimental results of K, gives a fair estimate of the crack opening stress near the crack front at a distance of order 10−2 in. On the basis of this analysis, the Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics approach has been adopted in analyzing the fatigue crack extension experiments performed in the disk (Part II).  相似文献

A simulation model to predict the effect of velocity on rigid-wheel performance for off-road terrain was examined. The soil–wheel simulation model is based on determining the forces acting on a wheel in steady state conditions. The stress distribution at the interface was analyzed from the instantaneous equilibrium between wheel and soil elements. The soil was presented by its reaction to penetration and shear. The simulation model describes the effect of wheel velocity on the soil–wheel interaction performances such as: wheel sinkage, wheel slip, net tractive ratio, gross traction ratio, tractive efficiency and motion resistance ratio. Simulation results from several soil-wheel configurations corroborate that the effect of velocity should be considered. It was found that wheel performance such as net tractive ratio and tractive efficiency, increases with increasing velocity. Both, relative wheel sinkage and relative free rolling wheel force ratio, decrease as velocity increases. The suggested model improves the performance prediction of off-road operating vehicles and can be used for applications such as controlling and improving off-road vehicle performance.  相似文献

The paper presents a formulation for the dynamic analysis of rigid multibodies. An introductory part carries out the kinematic analysis and the definition of the highly redundant differential framework along with the choice of unknowns and equations. From the differential formulation the variational principles, either in Lagrangian or Hamiltonian form, are developed. The Hamiltonian formulation is then used to develop the numerical approximation by applying the finite element method in time. The application of the method in its multifield form is discussed and a solution algorithm is proposed. Some examples are finally presented in order to verify the effectiveness of the formulation.
Sommario Il lavoro presenta una formulazione per lo studio della dinamica dei sistemi multicorpo rigidi. Nella parte introduttiva viene svolta l'analisi cinematica e si definisce il quadro differenziale con la scelta delle incognite e delle equazioni. Dalla formulazione differenziale vengono poi sviluppati dei principi variazionali nella forma Lagrangiana ed Hamiltoniana. La formulazione Hamiltoniana é quindi utilizzata per sviluppare l'approssimazione numerica col metodo degli elementi finiti di tempo. Viene discussa l'applicazione del metodo nella forma multi-campo e viene proposto un algoritmo di soluzione. Da ultimo, vengono discussi alcuni esempi per verificare la correttezza della formulazione.
